Think tanks and action vehicles.
Our Columbus Way is how NAACP Columbus Branch 3177 turns a legacy that began in 1915 into present-day power. We convene. We coordinate. We build consensus. We build coalition. Through that work the branch operates as both a think tank and an action vehicle. Our committees are the houses where it happens: they identify the issues, research the issues, and take action on the issues. That is how we show our collective power and our collective impact.

HOW WE WORK

How collective power is built.
Convene. Coordinate. Build consensus. Build coalition. Do those four well and the branch can bring its full collective power to bear.
01 CONVENE
We bring people, organizations, and relationships into the same room, including the ones that were working the same problem apart.
02 COORDINATE
We align calendars, messages, and action, and we share information, so the work does not collide and does not duplicate.
03 CONSENSUS
We are not a monolith, and we do not pretend to be. We hold diverse views and find the shared position that carries collective weight.
04 COALITION
First with each other: members, Black leaders, Black organizers, Black institutions. Not unanimity. Trust and infrastructure that lead to decisions that benefit the whole. Then with the organizations fighting the same fight, so that aligned people and aligned partners move as one.

THE RECORD
/
Promises are public. So is the follow-through.
Institutions make commitments in public. Dates, dollars, deadlines. Then the room clears and the clock starts. The Record is where we keep them. We document what was promised, by whom, and when. We check what was delivered. We publish both.
01 SURFACED
A commitment enters the record when a public body, agency, or company states it publicly or puts it in writing to the branch. Standing committees bring them in from the work they already do.
02 VERIFIED
The Data and Accountability Board checks it before it goes anywhere. Nothing reaches the record that has not been verified against a source we can point to.
03 PUBLISHED
Communications puts it out. Same four facts every time: what was promised, what was delivered, what remains, and when we check again.
04 PROTECTED
The Record is not a complaint file. Individual complaints stay confidential and are handled by Legal Redress. We check institutions against commitments, never individuals against opinion. If we cannot document it, we do not publish it.
Collective power. Collective impact. The power of the people, organized.

WHY IT WORKS

Visibility creates desire. Desire creates participation. Participation creates power. Power creates change.
A branch that shows up, keeps the record, and organizes the people and partners who can change who systems answer to. Presence, then proof, then power. Reform changes what a system does. Revolution changes who has the power to make the system answer.
NAACP Columbus is the spine of a coalition, not an empire. The coalition starts with each other: members, Black leaders, Black organizers, and Black institutions, held together by trust and infrastructure rather than unanimity, making the decisions that benefit the whole. It extends to partners who decide their own positions, campaigns, and programming, and we help them do all of it better. We do not absorb partners and we do not claim their victories. We amplify, we mobilize, and we defer to partners in their areas of expertise.
Every NAACP Columbus committee is both. A think tank that studies the problem with the people closest to it, and an action vehicle that moves when the moment calls for it. Twenty-five committees. We share the work and we share the wins.
